ZIP/390 MP is a ZIP compression and file transfer utility featuring unique capabilities to enhance speed, packaging, automation, and cross-platform application integration.

The ZIP format is a simple and efficient means of transferring files across all platforms. By compressing files by up to 95%—while also encrypting them—it significantly reduces transfer times, network overhead, and storage space requirements.

Another highly valued feature is the ability to send emails—containing text messages and PDF or ZIP attachments—directly to users' inboxes. This serves as an ideal delivery method for certain applications, such as the automated delivery of reports using ZIP/390 MP’s integrated JES support.

The software integrates directly with IBM® zEDC and zIIP to reduce compression cycles on General Processors (GPs) and accelerate compression speeds. Furthermore, multithreaded compression runs on zEDCs and zIIPs, as well as GPs, delivering even higher compression performance—a benefit that is particularly significant when compressing large files.

With ZIP/390 MP, IBM mainframes can exchange ZIP files with other compression solutions, such as WinZip, 7-Zip, and PKZIP.

Space Savings: ZIP/390 MP reduces file sizes by an average of 85% to 95%, lowering the storage space required for files and allowing for greater user data storage capacity on their devices. Faster Transfers: Reduced file sizes result in faster transfers and lower network overhead. Additionally, ZIP/390 MP’s built-in high-speed transfer feature offers faster WAN transfers than traditional FTP methods.

Convenience: Multiple files can be compressed into a single ZIP archive, simplifying management and sharing while enhancing file transfer efficiency.

zSeries Performance: ZIP/390 MP for z/OS leverages key zSeries performance features—such as zEnterprise Data Compression Acceleration (zEDC) and the IBM z Integrated Information Processor (zIIP)—to minimize General Processor (GP) overhead, increase compression speed, and reduce job completion times.

Comprehensive File Support: ZIP/390 supports the compression and decompression of common mainframe file systems—including z/OS Sequential, PDS, PDS(E), TAPE, Extended/Large Format Datasets, and HFS/zFS—ensuring seamless integration with mainframe environments.

Large ZIP File Support (ZIP64): Supports compression and decompression of ZIP archives for very large datasets (exceeding 4 GB), a critical capability for enterprise applications handling massive volumes of data.

ZIP Archive Maintenance: ZIP/390 MP supports commands for maintaining ZIP archives, including adding, updating, and deleting files within an archive, as well as copying files between archives.

EBCDIC, ASCII, and Unicode Translation: Converts between EBCDIC, ASCII, and Unicode formats, ensuring compatibility across diverse systems and enabling seamless data exchange.

Data Integrity: ZIP/390 MP includes error-checking features that help ensure data integrity during transfer. Integrated Transport: ZIP files can be forwarded via Email (SMTP), FTP, and the Fast Internet Transport (FIT)™ protocol included in ZIP/390 MP Connect Edition.
